The season is a-changing, and so should your MINI... It sure doesn't feel like Autumn any more, and the dipping temperatures and white stuff cascading down from the grey skies don't play nice with the summer performance tires on my MINI. Yes, it is that time again where we need to act on changing to proper winter tires - not the all-season tires that some folks claim are "good enough" for year-round use. Good enough maybe, until a testy winter storm takes you and your MINI on an unplanned trip into the curb, or worse, into another vehicle. I prefer to use the term "no-season" tires as these types of tire are typically compromised for the extreme differences between summer and winter, and consequently perform in a mediocre fashion 12 months of the year! It is much better to opt for a tire designed for temperatures of 7 degrees celsius and below, where the rubber compound remains pliable well into the nether regions of the thermometer. It usually takes only a short drive after the switch to winter tires to realize the dramatic increase in one's confidence level driving in the worst that winter can dish out. Do yourself a favour and outfit your MINI with proper winter tires, get rid of that white knuckle driving experience with the wrong tire, and above all, keep the shiny side up! |

A fledgling club we are, therefore we meet each month to discuss possible events or just talk about our cars. All MINI/Mini owners are welcome, we need ideas and more people to join and participate. We currently meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 6:30 at Brewsters, 11620 - 104 Avenue (North side of 104 Ave) There is plenty of parking, but not such that we can park "in formation", it is more scatter-shot. Come join us! See if you can spot some MINIs on the parking lot! Thanks to those who attended the February meeting, a boisterous enough group to compete with the hockey game. If you can, stop by at the next meeting, Wednesday, March 3rd, for socializing and MINI chattin'. |

Hi Everyone! The Edmonton MINI Club site is online and looking for your input. We are a group of MINI owners that like to talk about our cars with other MINI owners. We plan to have events that will allow us to know who is driving MINI's out there, and how in love they are with their cars. If you have been known to wave at a fellow MINI driver in traffic, you are a likely candidate for membership. For 2010 we are hopeful that a few of you Owners out there will come forward with some ideas for drives, events, and socials in and around Edmonton and area. There will be the opportunity to hook up with our more established MINI Club Calgary counterparts on cooperative Alberta meets in the Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Rocky Mountain House areas. Highlights of some of our most notable ventures with our Calgary cousins include a 41 car turnout for the "Great Pumpkin Run" in October 2008, and a 92 MINI count for the 50th anniversary meet in August 2009. Seeing so many MINIs together in all their various colours and trim levels cannot help but bring a smile to one's face. We have noticed a proliferation of Clubmans around town lately and would like to extend a special invitation to Clubman Owners who may have small children to participate in our events. Kids just love MINIs, and it's great to see their eyes light up when a bunch of MINIs get together! 2010 sees the annual Mini Meet West being hosted by Penticton, B.C. in the summer, where there is sure to be a wide showing of classic Minis from the Pacific Northwest and Prairies. And for the more adventurous among you, there is also the 7th annual A MINI Vacation In Vegas (AMVIV7) taking place once again in Las Vegas, Nevada at the end of March If you have a new generation MINI or classic Mini, love to show it off and talk about it... join us! Our site is constantly a work in progress and may at times be cantankerous... so if something looks amiss, be sure to let us know. |
